Palia Gifting & Friendship Guide
How friendship rises
Three things raise a villager's friendship: talking to them once per Palian day (about one real hour), giving gifts, and completing their friendship quests, which open up at higher levels. Reaching milestones with villagers also feeds account-wide Renown.
Gift limits (read this first)
- You can give each villager one gift per day. The daily reset is 4:00 AM UTC.
- Each villager also has up to four Weekly Wants — specific items they want that week, one of each, resetting Monday at 4:00 AM UTC. A Weekly Want still uses that day's single gift slot.
Spend your one daily gift on a Weekly Want when you can — it pays bonus friendship on top of the gift's normal value.
Loved, liked, neutral, disliked
Every villager has tastes, and matching them matters a lot: a loved gift gives roughly double the friendship of a liked one. Neutral gifts give a little, and a disliked gift actually lowers friendship — so check tastes before you hand something over. Star quality, by the way, gives no gifting bonus, so save your Star items for selling or cooking.
Look up what each villager lovesRomance
Eleven villagers are romanceable: Einar, Hassian, Hodari, Jel, Jina, Kenyatta, Nai'o, Reth, Subira, Tamala and Tish. Once you're at Friendship Level 3 or higher with one, give them a Box of Chocolates or a Heartdrop Lily to begin a relationship (a few have extra conditions). You then advance it by flirting once per Palian day or gifting chocolates or a lily about once a real week.
There's no marriage in Palia. Completing a romance rewards a Villager Pin, and you can pursue more than one — you just wear one pin at a time.
What friendship rewards you
- Reaching Level 3 gives you a key to that villager's room and new dialogue.
- Friendship quests at higher levels hand out items and sometimes Renown.
- Most villagers send a decorative wallpaper to your plot after your first gift to them.
Frequently asked questions
How many gifts can I give a villager in Palia?
One gift per villager per day, resetting at 4:00 AM UTC. Each villager also has up to four Weekly Wants that reset Monday at 4:00 AM UTC, but giving one still uses your single daily gift slot.
How much better is a loved gift than a liked one?
A loved gift gives roughly double the friendship of a liked gift, which makes learning each villager's loved items the most efficient way to build friendship.
What happens if I give a disliked gift?
It lowers that villager's friendship, so it's worth checking their tastes first. Neutral gifts give only a small amount.
Does star quality help when gifting?
No. Star quality gives no gifting bonus, so it's better to sell or cook your Star-quality items and gift ordinary ones.
Can you get married in Palia?
No. Romance ends in a Villager Pin rather than marriage, and you can romance multiple villagers — you just equip one pin at a time. There are eleven romanceable villagers.
