Palia Mounts & Animals Guide
How mounts work
Your first mount is free: complete the Before the Dawn quest from Hassian in the Royal Highlands and the Dawnspur is yours. Every mount after that is unlocked through ranching — a breeding milestone, a discovery questline or a ranching level — and then bought or redeemed at the Ranching Guild Store. A few mounts also need a riding license before you can actually ride them; until then you can still raise and breed them on your ranch.

The Dawnspur were bred for riding by Ancient Human nobility. They have recently returned from supposed extinction, and are now found roaming the Royal Highlands.

Trait variant
The Akwinduu Thoroughbred emerged from extinction alongside Humanity across the sea in the Akwinduu Province, where they were readily adopted by royalty as an alternative to the riffroc.

Trait variant
The quintessential mount for any Majiri. Riffrocs are reliable, sturdy, and rather proud creatures. Treat them with respect and they'll be a friend for life.

A special Dawnspur blessed by the Phoenix herself. Much rarer than their extinguished cousins, it is said to see a Phoenixfire Dawnspur in the wild is a good omen.

Ranch animals(9)
Unlock ranching with the Like a Bird quest, build a Barn, then raise these animals in your ranch pens. Buy each one and its glowing trait variant as a voucher from the Ranching Guild Store.
These fierce fishers will bring you their daily catch...and look adorable while doing it.

Native to nearly every environment across Palia, the Wolpunny is one adaptive critter! On top of the diverse coat patterns Wolpunnies adopt to match their habitat, their strong back legs make them excellent at digging for seeds, which allows them to find food in many different landscapes.

How do you get your first mount in Palia?
Your first mount is a Dawnspur horse, and it's free. Head to the Royal Highlands and complete the Before the Dawn quest from Hassian — he'll have you free the horse from amber crystals and feed it a few Dawnspur Lilies. Finishing the quest grants the Dawnspur, no purchase required.
Where do you buy more mounts and animals?
Once a creature is unlocked, you redeem its voucher and buy extras at the Ranching Guild Store on your ranch. Dawnspurs cost 5,000 gold each; the Akwinduu Thoroughbred is 6,000, the Riffroc 6,500, and the Phoenixfire Dawnspur 10,000.
Do all mounts let you ride right away?
Not all of them. The Dawnspur and Riffroc are rideable as soon as you unlock them — no license needed. The Akwinduu Thoroughbred's riding access comes with the Highlands or Royal Highlands Supporter Pack, and the Phoenixfire Dawnspur needs the Phoenixfire Riding License, sold for Palia Coins in the Premium Store. Without a license you can still raise and breed the horse on your ranch.
What is the difference between mounts, ranch animals and pets?
Mounts are the rideable horses and the Riffroc. Ranch animals — like the Ormuu, Peki and Boovar — are raised on your ranch and produce goods such as milk, eggs and honey. Both are unlocked through ranching. Decorative companion pets (Palcats, Flutterfoxes and the like) are separate cosmetics from the Premium Store and aren't covered here.
How do you start ranching in Palia?
Complete the Like a Bird quest to unlock ranching, then build a Barn on your plot. From there you can buy animals and their trait variants as vouchers from the Ranching Guild Store and raise them in the roaming pens.
