Artifact Spots are hoe-able dig spots that turn up relics and artifact pieces. Each spot rolls its reward when you dig, so the same spot can give different finds on different days.
Marker positions are faithful to in-game locations. Renewable resources (trees, ore, bugs and forageables) appear and respawn within the marked spawn areas rather than at one fixed spot, so those layers show the zone, not an exact node.
